One of the things I love about living in the Pacific Northwest is the amount of succulent plants that grow so well here.  Front yards everywhere sprout plump, pulpy hens and chicks, jades, and ground sedums. Mosses grow on rocks, steps, trees, and roofs. Every shade of green dazzles the eye on just your average neighborhood walk. I guess these are the benefits of living under so much rain. When the sun comes out, it’s almost too much color! So I dedicate this succulent design to my lovely home city, Portland. I hope you enjoy using this design as much as I enjoyed creating it.

I created this photo collage for an exhibition that Jessie and I curated at Studio Nemo in Portland called Beneath the Surface: Flora, Fantasy, and Fable in Surface Design. The theme was all about exploring how pattern creates layers of meaning, discovery, and fantasy to everyday objects. I wanted to use flowers in an unconventional way, combining them with crystals and geometric forms to create something psychedelic and fantastical.  The print was displayed alongside Jessie’s crystal creation, on top of our black and white wallpaper that featured mushrooms, squirrels, deer, and lots of meandering lines.  This print was featured in the book  Patterns by Macarena San Martin.  And now it’s here for you!
