Timea Sido – Fragile Fragment Vessel, Fenella Elms – Mussels Wall Mount

Stine Jespersen – Bit by Bit, Clare Gage – Round Button Cup

From knitted, woven and fretted to directional, pinched and spikey, textured ceramics are the must have interior accessory this autumn/winter.  Moving into the realm of arts and crafts, ceramics have evolved into exciting sculptural pieces for the home, replacing tacky knick knacks on your mantle piece or bookshelf.

Ceramics maker Clare Gage talked me through the creation process…

‘As you can imagine it’s rather drawn out. I start by hand weaving and sewing together a fabric piece then making a plaster mould from that, so all the texture is captured inside. Then when you put the clay in, it picks all that texture back up again, so it creates a porcelain version of it.’

Every stage of the lengthy making process is skilfully performed to create a perfect yet individual piece. So rather than sticking with the usual mass produced ceramic mug or plate, accessorise your home with beautifully textured candle holders, plant pots and wall hangings.
