Yinka Shonibare MBE | The British Library | A co-commission by HOUSE 2014 and Brighton Festival 2014

Born in London but raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Yinka Shonibare MBE, has become known for his explorations of colonialism and post-colonialism within a global context through various media forms such as photography, painting, sculpture, film and performance. A Turner Prize nominee, Shonibare often uses batik fabrics in his creations. His most recent work called, The British Library, features over 10,00 books bound in Shonibare’s trademark African textiles, paying homage to famous British cultural immigrants and their contributions made to British culture and society.
