Spirit Weavers

Opening later this month at Jack Bell Gallery is a photography exhibit featuring the work of Leonce Raphael Agbodjelou that captures the life and culture of his native homeland, Nigeria. We particularly love the images of the Egungun which is a festival where masqueraders honor the deceased and help guide them on their journey to the spirit world. The ornate costumes are constructed out of layers of decorated textiles in vibrant colors and each performs a variety of roles acted out during the festivities through drumming and dancing. Read more about the event and Leonce here.
